The Broad can be described as a modern art museum located on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, California. The museum’s name comes from philanthropists Eli, and Edythe Broad founded the $140 million facility, which houses the art collection. It provides access to its permanent collection gallery. Not all events are free, and entry fees may vary depending on the show or event. The first event took place on September 20, 2015.
In 2008, Eli, Edythe Broad, and the Broad and Broad Art Foundation considered different locations to build a museum collection. In November 2008, it was reported that Eli Broad approached Beverly Hills about the possibility of making his museum in the area southwest of Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard. In January 2010, Broad announced he was considering a 10-acre acreage on the West Los Angeles campus near Culver City. Then, in March 2010, the Santa Monica City Council approved an agreement. The Santa Monica City Council has approved a contract to lease a 2.5-acre parcel of land adjacent to the Santa Monica Civic Hall to Eli Broad for $1 per year for 99 years while providing 1 million dollars to estimate the cost. Broad may pay the remainder, estimated to be between $50 million and $70 million.
In August 2010, Eli Broad announced plans to build an arts center in downtown Los Angeles. Broad has agreed to provide $7.7 million for a 99-year lease. Described as a donation, the money is used to pay for affordable housing at The Emerson, a high-rise near the museum. The agreement also includes an $8.5 million portion of the exterior cost and government payments of up to $30 million to pay Broad for constructing the museum’s underground parking lot. The purchase order will mean that the parking lot will eventually become government property. A&M Pest Control in Los Angeles
